In the next upcoming posts, I will talk about all of the fun/yummy things that took place over our week long/4th of July vacation in Isle of Palms, South Carolina. Everything from the delicious food, to 4th of July, to a low country broil, to birthday beach party DIYs, & the best photographer in South Carolina… It was the best family vacation to date.
So, where to start? How about what to eat while in IOP.
Birthdays & Cake
This year was extra special for us as a family. We celebrated my mom’s __th birthday & Baylor & Hunter’s 2nd birthday as well! It was nice to have everyone there for both occasions. And for the big days I ordered a cake & cupcakes from the most amazing little bakery in Charleston, Sugar Bake Shop. Oh my gosh. I just love, love, love this place! {they were even featured in Southern Living} If you are ever in the area, you must stop by. They make everything in house from beautiful cakes, to specialty cupcakes daily, to my husband’s new favorite ice pops that he just had to buy on both visits {which gave me inspiration for popsicles for the boys’ 2nd birthday party. Post to come later}.
For my mom, it was a beautiful & delicious vanilla cake with cream cheese icing & candied blueberries. The boys devoured vanilla & red velvet cupcakes with cream cheese icing & blueberries. Everything was amazing & hard to put down… Even Hunter, my little monkey who doesn’t have a sweet tooth, loved their cupcakes!
Low Country Broil
In the south, it’s a staple. You have to have at least one low country broil a year. It doesn’t matter if it’s crab, shrimp, oysters. In the spring, summer, fall or winter… just have one! It’s a great time to relax & have a beer {or throw the frisbee in the street} with friends & family while the pot does the cooking. And since we are on vacation, who wants to be cooped up in the kitchen all day anyway?! So, David & I had a little surprise up our sleeve for everyone.
Cue The Smoking Pot. A two man show from the Charsleston area that will blow you away! They bring everything to you, including the silverware. What does this mean you ask?
Now cue the choir of angels… Oh my! This made me very happy!
The first part of the meal were beautiful blue crabs. Unfortunately, I am allergic to crab. Fortunately, I was able to take many wonderful photos for you to enjoy.
The set up was unlike anything I had ever seen. Back home, when we have an oyster party, we have a table with the big hole in the center, too. But, nothing like this! Bowls for your meat, a slot for your knife, towels hanging for convenience, bowls for melting butter… I mean come on!
After the family finished every last morsel of crab, we moved upstairs to the back deck to experience what we’ve all been waiting for… the low country broil of course.

Keep an eye for my next posts on our family vacation. I will give you a little more detail on our photographer extraordinaire, DIY tutorials on the starfish and cupcake toppers you see above, food & DIY’s from the 4th of July, and so much more!
Also, I will post some wonderful lunch ideas for you. Much to my surprise, I have really been enjoying lunch these days, which for me is the hardest meal of the day. So definitely be on the lookout for those as well!
Happy Monday!
