This post should have happened a long time ago. Almost 3 years actually. Mickey Mouse was big in our house and that “hot dog” song played over and over… and over again in my head. Know the feeling? The twins were turning 3 and I had the perfect theme – cookies and milk birthday party and throw in some Mickey while you’re at it. It was adorable, fun and lit up with a sugar high from Hell! But, that’s what kids birthday parties are for, right?
The cookies and cake were made by the talented Rhodes Bakery in Atlanta, Ga. They worked with me and gave me exactly what I was looking for! From the MM head on top of the cake down to the milk bottle cookies with MM heads and the number 3… I mean how ridiculously cute are those?!
I made the Mickey Mouse head silhouette in photoshop and found the font for free online. With this I was able to make the little table signs as well as the Mickey Mouse pictures on the wall above the cake table. You can find the table picture frames from IKEA.
Those darling wooden utensils were found here on Etsy.I made two “mobiles” for decorations. Super simple – all you need are some embroidery hoops and paint, needle and fishing line, craft pom poms, and some ribbon or yarn to tie them up. Paint both the outside and insert of the hoop any color you’d like and let dry. Thread your needle with the fishing wire and get to work working your needle and line straight through each pom pom. You may need to make a small knot under each pom pom to secure them in place. I made a red pom pom with black hoop mobile and a black pom pom with red hoop mobile.
The milk bottles and straws were purchased from a great party shop, Shop Sweet LuLu. I added an extra touch to each bottle by adding black Mickey Mouse silhouettes and red/white twine to hold each straw. So adorable! And the bottles are reusable. I suggest hand washing. My dish washer melted a few…The idea of using buckets as party favors is becoming a go-to for me for several reasons – kids love to carry all their crap around, these buckets are easy to personalize, and cheap (found at Party City). I used my Cricut to cut all of the names out and used Mod Podge to glue them on and then clear coat so they wouldn’t tear off. The other side I used extra large, round label stickers to resemble Mickey’s pants.
*Side note* you may wanna forego too many cookies with black icing… it doesn’t come out.It is so nice having a kid size table set up outside. No need to run in and out of the house when your food and drinks are right there!
The kids colored MM birthday pages and wrote their names so we could keep them for the twins in a little folder. A sweet little memento from the occasion.
The balloons are, again, from Shop Sweet LuLu. Just love that little online shop. These signs were easy to make and a nice added touch to the front of the driveway. The ‘clubhouse’ sign is a wooden arrow from Micheal’s (I’m sure any local craft store will carry these). I painted the wood and then cut the letters out using my Cricut (best purchase ever for DIY birthday parties). I glued the letters and the twine and viola!
I hope you’re as happy with these results as I am. It was a fun 3rd birthday party and I loved looking back in time with you 🙂
