Seeing as how I am not the one who likes to give the kind of gift you scrambled for at the last minute from Target, I needed something great for my little sister’s graduation from the University of Georgia. And to be honest, what do you get someone who’s graduating from college? It’s not like high school when they could really use a microwave for their apartment!
So, one afternoon as I’m wandering through Home Goods, I see a wire rack made just for ice cream cone cupcakes. Seriously? A wire, baking rack for ice cream cones?! But, it reminded me of the ice cream cone cupcakes Jackie made for our little brother’s 16th birthday party. She ended up rigging some contraption for the cones to sit upright in to bake… it was a mess only Jackie could make!
This was it! Destiny standing before me. The perfect, weird, quirky gift. Plus, I thought it would be fun for her to use for her kids in her new classroom come August! {She graduated with a degree in early childhood education with a focus in special needs}
So, after my unique purchase I thought carefully of what could tag along with this wire rack. So many pins from Pinterest running through my brain & I had it! Vanilla sugar. Jackie loves to bake like I do, so what better gift that will last a year & help make new creations in the kitchen?!
Vanilla Sugar
Ingredients/Tools:
2-3 cups granulated sugar
two vanilla beans
mason jar
Directions:
Fill half of mason jar with 1 cup of sugar.
Split both vanilla beans down center & scrape seeds out into the sugar. Add beans to jar.
Fill rest of jar with sugar remaining sugar. Shake until combined.
Add your own cute touch to the jar & you’re done!
Vanilla Sugar will last up to a year if kept in a cool dry place & lid on tight. If the sugar runs out before the year is up & the beans are not dry, you can add more sugar for continued use!
Let me know if you decide to make this & what you use it for! Tea, coffee, cookies, cakes… the possibilities are endless!
XOXO
