This particular day, not the project I’m going to share with you.
This week has been tough. My little monsters attended their very first day of school this past Tuesday. It was not easy for them. It was not easy for me. They cried. I cried, in my car. They really cried the second day. They were really happy to see me the second day! They’re only going to preschool for 3 hours, twice a week. That’s not too bad, right?
I wanted to capture their first day with a special picture. And getting these two to sit still long enough for one picture is next to impossible. Especially when we’re outside!
For this photo, I had a piece of light weight wood cut into a 12″ square. I painted the front {& sides} with Rust-oleum’s chalkboard paint. {FYI~ I found this paint to be much, much better than Martha Stewart’s chalkboard paint.}
Here’s where “mom knows best” comes in to play. Since I already knew my models were restless & the weather was not in my favor, I took the board outside & made sure my camera’s settings were where I wanted them. This way there’s no pausing for correct exposure once the monsters were let loose! I didn’t want our first day to be crazy & flustered because I wanted to be “emotional/photographer~mom”!
I think this picture turned out perfect. No chalk scribbled on the ground for them to lay next to. They don’t need to hold anything {except for the necessary automobiles}. And only one shot needed. This photo definitely shows “us”. No fuss, simple & quick! Maybe I’ll get a little more detailed in the coming years…
Did you do anything special for your little one’s first day? I’d love it if you shared!
Hope everyone is having a great start to the new school year!
