B.K. {before kids} this would not have happened. Decorating that is. Especially for Valentines Day. I never really decorated unless it was Christmas, or there was a party involved. And if I did decorate, it would not have involved hearts, leprechauns, or Easter bunnies! ~~ I have officially become a mom. And it’s quite fun! I definitely don’t decorate for my husband. He cares, but not enough to ask to me to put up my handmade heart wreath. I 100% do this for my munchkins. They don’t really notice it right now, but I feel the need to share the love these days.
And speaking of sharing, today I wanted to share my mantel with y’all. I love it. It’s nothing too fancy, over the top with hearts, glitter & red. It’s simple, will fall into the next season, & I made it. So, yeah, I’m pretty proud of it.
I am in need of a few pretty candle holders though. Just haven’t found the right ones yet. Any suggestion? Maybe World Market or Save on Crafts?
For the word “love” I bought paper mache letters from JoAnn & spray painted them with Design Master’s gold metallic spray paint. The lights were from Restoration Hardware. I just love the reflection of the lights bouncing off of the paint. It’s so inviting & warm.
The banner is something that has been on the to~do list for a while. A year…? But this was not supposed to end in strips, nor as a v-day/Spring banner. It was going to be an Easter banner last year. But, last year we didn’t have this beautiful mantel. {Can you believe this huge, brick wall was so bare!?} To hold the ends of the ribbon I used removable hooks. No nails or glue needed.
I also painted the chevron canvas. Easy as pie with a printed stencil. I thought about painting a heart on there, but my sister talked me out of it.
What do you think?
I can’t wait to share my Valentine’s Day photos with y’all! I have the backdrop ready to go. The props are finished. Now I just need the weather to cooperate. Good {natural} lighting is this photographers best friend.
XOXO

Sarah! I love the decorations…and I see that you got a mantel. Were the letters easy to spray paint? I've been trying to get some gold letters for our house without paying an arm and leg for letters! Is this a beginners project?

Mary, yes! We finally broke down & bought a mantel! Just in time to move at the end of the year…
These letter are the easiest to paint! And being that they're paper, they give an "aged/antique" look once they're dry. JoAnn usually has a sale running where each letter is $1 off & they will have a coupon… that's the best time to buy the letter & paint!
And I highly suggest buying Design Master or Rustoleum spray paints. I have had little success with Krylon. If you do a silver paint, they could look just like Restoration Hardware or Pottery Barn's pricey letters!
